I am admittedly not the biggest Shiraz fan (although I love a Rhone or Californian Syrah) because I often find them pillowy or jammy. I have had some absolutely brilliant ones with pepper and backbone but they are often quite pricey. Then someone hipped me to this Vintages essential gem:
PENFOLDS - THOMAS HYLAND SHIRAZ, AUSTRALIA - $ 19.95
Nose of black cherry and chocolate with a hint of white pepper. Ripe fruit on the palate, silky tannins and well-balanced acid.
QPR - Quality to Price Ratio - is an important factor when you are buying wine. Whether it is $9.00 or $59.00 you want to feel your wine is worth the spend. Posted below are my suggestions.
I am not an expert, just a discerning wine lover or amateur de vin (as the French say), but everyone has a different palate, likes and dislikes so it must be understood that any of my recommendations are personal. I just hope that you find them useful or at the very least - interesting. I also hope you enjoy my photos. It is more fun sharing then keeping them backed up on a hard drive.
