I have a long (longer than I would like to admit) and happy history with the original Ca' del Solo Big House Red. The new Under Dog Wines - Big House has remained a blend but does not seem to be vintage dated and has morphed into a less expensive and less complex wine but that being said, it is a great value and still enjoyable for everyday drinking:
BIG HOUSE RED - $ 13.00
Aromas of black berry and vanilla. Palate has intense flavors of plums raspberry and blackberry. The finish has a touch of spicy black pepper and a hint of leather and smoke.

BIG HOUSE WHITE - $ 13.00
Aroma floral and citrus aroma and a touch of spice. Melon and stone fruit flavours with crisp acidity for a clean finish.

QPR - Quality to Price Ratio - is an important factor when you are buying wine. Whether it is $9.00 or $59.00 you want to feel your wine is worth the spend. Posted below are my suggestions.
I am not an expert, just a discerning wine lover or amateur de vin (as the French say), but everyone has a different palate, likes and dislikes so it must be understood that any of my recommendations are personal. I just hope that you find them useful or at the very least - interesting. I also hope you enjoy my photos. It is more fun sharing then keeping them backed up on a hard drive.

Big, Bold, Ontario Red
2007 was a special summer for winemakers in Ontario. It was hot and dry so the red wines that were made that year seemed bigger and bolder than usual. This blend is no exception. It is beautifully balanced and very full-bodied. A real charmer for the price.
CALAMUS RESERVE RED - $18.00
Meritage - 53% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Syrah.
30 months in French Oak give this wine lots of special aromas including chocolate/mocha, smokey nose with a beautiful blackberry backbone. The palate releases many of the same flavours with rich, velvety tannins.

Sometimes I get a real kick out of wine names and feel I need to share. The one that struck me this week was from a Globe & Mail review: Dirty Laundry Bordello 2008 (B.C.)
